What this article covers: How to sort, filter, and freeze panes when viewing a Cell Report, and how to add charts to a Cell Report in the editor.
Cell Reports have spreadsheet-style view tools and built-in charts. This article complements Cell Report — Spreadsheet-Style Custom Reports.
1. Sort & Filter (Viewing a Report)
Open a Cell Report and select the cells you want to work with, then open Sort & Filter in the view toolbar:
Option
What it does
Sort A to Z / Sort Z to A
Sorts the selected range by the active column.
Custom Sort…
Opens the Sort dialog: choose the Sort by column, the Order (Smallest to largest or Largest to smallest), and whether My data has headers.
Filter
Adds filter buttons to the heading row of the selected range. Click a heading’s filter button to sort, search the values (Search values), and tick the values to show.
Clear Filter / Remove Filter
Clear Filter shows all rows again but keeps the filter buttons; Remove Filter removes them.
Clear Sort
Returns the rows to their original order.
2. Freeze Panes
Use the Freeze panes menu to keep headings on screen while scrolling: Freeze Top Row, Freeze First Column, or Unfreeze Panes.
3. Clearing Your View
Click Clear view to drop the sort, filter, and freeze applied in this view in one step.
🛈 View only: Sorting, filtering, and freezing in the viewer change only what your browser tab shows. The report itself is not changed, and other users are not affected.
4. Adding a Chart (Editor)
1
Open the report in the editorSelect the cell where the chart should sit, then click Insert chart in the formatting toolbar.
2
Choose the chart typeColumn, Bar, Line, Area, Pie, or Doughnut.
3
Pick the dataThe data is picked from lists — no ranges to type. Set Compare across (Time, Accounts, sections or lines, or Entities), the periods shown, and the currency. Then under What to plot, click + Add series for each series: choose where it comes from (for example a P&L section total, balance sheet account, KPI, or exchange rate), the entity, the version (scenario), a legend name, and a colour.
4
Set the layoutSet the Anchor cell, an optional Title (under 80 characters), Width and Height in pixels, and whether to show the Legend and Value labels.
5
SaveThe chart appears on the sheet at the anchor cell. Open it again to edit it, or click Delete chart to remove it.
💡 Tip: When comparing entities, each series uses that entity’s own books — the group total is not included unless you add it as its own series.
