What this article covers: How MYOB Business jobs and categories work in BrizoConsol — switching the job report on, how the profit and loss by job or category is computed, viewing it, and how job and category figures are combined across the entities in a group.

🛈 Before you start: The entity must already be connected to MYOB (see Connecting an Entity to MYOB). Profit and loss by job is available on the Free, Pro and Premium editions, not on Standard. Switching it on needs a user who can administer the entity’s data. Jobs are reported on each MYOB entity, not on a consolidated group.

How MYOB Differs

MYOB serves no profit and loss report by job or category. BrizoConsol computes it from the ledger lines it already loads for each month, so switching it on adds no extra read from MYOB. Nothing is computed for a month whose ledger has not been loaded.

Item Detail
The jobs the MYOB file holds, with their parent chain (for example TEST001 > TEST002) so two jobs with the same name stay apart. Inactive jobs are not offered.
The categories the MYOB file holds. MYOB states a category on the sale or purchase document, so a ledger line belongs to a category through the document it comes from.
Computed per month from profit and loss accounts only. Ledger lines that carry no job are kept under Unassigned, so the jobs and Unassigned add up to the month’s profit and loss.
Two read-only datasets, MYOB: Job and MYOB: Category — see section 5.

1. Switch On P&L by Job

1
Open Data Loading for the entitySelect the MYOB entity, then open Data Loading.
2
Click Switch on P&L by jobThe button sits on the MYOB reads card in the sync bar at the top of the page.
3
Check Data LoadingThe page header now shows View P&L by Job and the period table gains a P&L by job column.

There is no setup or classification step for MYOB: jobs and categories are taken from the file as they are.

2. Load the Monthly P&L by Job

1
Choose the monthsOn Data Loading, click Load missing or Reload on a period row, or tick several periods and click Load selected.
2
Tick P&L by JobUnder Data Types in the load dialog. It is computed from the ledger the same load reads.
3
Click Start LoadThe P&L by job column shows the status of each month.

3. View the P&L by Job or Category

1
Click View P&L by JobOn Data Loading. The page is titled P&L by Job or Category.
2
Choose a Job, From Date and To DateThe list starts with All jobs and categories, then each Category · <name>, then each Job · <path>. The dates default to the start of the current month and today.
3
Click Show the job reportThe report lists each account and its amount for the chosen job or category.

The report header states what it was computed from and how much of the ledger carries a job — for example how many of the period’s ledger lines carry a job, with the rest in the Unassigned segment. A job with no ledger line in the period reports zero rather than being left out.

4. Using Job and Category Data in Dashboards & Reports

MYOB job and category figures reach dashboards, custom reports and Operational Reports through the MYOB: Job and MYOB: Category operational datasets. Select them by name from the data source picker. Each is read one P&L line at a time, so lines are never added to each other.

5. Consolidating Job and Category Data Across Entities

Operational Data

Each MYOB entity holds two read-only datasets: MYOB: Job (dimensions Job and P&L Line) and MYOB: Category (dimensions Category and P&L Line). They are rewritten each time a month is loaded and are removed when MYOB is disconnected. Each account line is tied to the entity’s account by its code.

Operational Reports

Every MYOB entity writes these datasets under the same source, so MYOB: Job and MYOB: Category each open as one operational report covering all the MYOB entities the group can read. Drag Entity onto an axis to split it by entity. Jobs and categories with the same name in different entities fall on the same row.

Dashboards and custom reports

On a consolidated entity, datasets with the same name in several entities are read as one source. In a custom report, use Include Entities to choose which entities a row reads. Values are translated into the group’s currency, except on the Standard edition. See Operational Data Consolidation.

Troubleshooting

Message What to do
Switch it on from the MYOB card on Data Loading (section 1).
Load the general ledger for those months, with P&L by Job ticked.
Nothing was posted to that job in the period. MYOB carries a job on only some postings.
The subscription is on an edition without accounting detail. It is available on Free, Pro and Premium.
