What this article covers: How to use Insight Packages to prepare a complete set of financial notes — combining financial statements, narrative commentary, charts, and supporting schedules into a single professionally formatted PDF.

Financial notes accompany your financial statements to explain the figures — accounting policies, significant judgements, segment information, and management commentary. In BrizoConsol, Insight Packages bring all of this together in one place: live financial data, rich-text narrative, imported supporting documents, and charts, compiled into a PDF that can be published as a permanent record or scheduled for automatic delivery.

1. Create the Insight Package

From the left navigation, click Insight Packages, then Custom, then New Package. Give the package a name that identifies the report — for example FY2025 Financial Notes or Q3 2025 Board Pack with Notes.

💡 Tip: Use a consistent naming convention across periods — for example Financial Notes — [Month] [Year] — so published versions are easy to identify in the sidebar over time.

2. Structure the Package with Sections

Each section you add becomes a page or panel in the PDF. For a set of financial notes, the recommended structure is:

Section type Use in financial notes
A full-page divider between major sections — e.g. Financial Statements, Notes to the Financial Statements, Supporting Schedules
The core financial statements — add Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow as separate Report sections
Narrative notes — accounting policies, basis of preparation, significant judgements, segment information, or management commentary. Up to 25,000 characters per section
A data table paired with commentary — useful for notes that explain a specific line item alongside the supporting figures
A chart with narrative alongside it — for example revenue trend with management commentary
Pre-built system visuals: Net Profit Waterfall, Current vs Non Current Assets, or Expenses by Entity
A custom schedule or supplementary table built in a Cell Report — for example a lease liability schedule or segment breakdown with custom row labels
A Word or PDF document imported directly — for example a pre-prepared auditor's note or a statutory disclosure
An Excel workbook rendered as a table — for example a detailed depreciation schedule or tax computation

Click Add Section in the package editor, choose the section type, and configure each section in turn. Drag sections to reorder them.

3. Add Narrative Notes (Text Sections)

To add a written note, click Add Section and choose Text. The Text section editor supports rich formatting — headings, bold, italic, lists, and tables — up to 25,000 characters per section. Add as many Text sections as needed; each appears as its own block in the PDF.

Common notes to include:

📝 Typical notes for a financial notes package
  • Basis of preparation and accounting policies
  • Significant accounting judgements and estimates
  • Segment information
  • Revenue breakdown
  • Employee costs and headcount
  • Related party transactions
  • Borrowings and facilities
  • Management commentary on results
  • Events after the reporting period

4. Add Supporting Schedules

For schedules that go beyond a standard report — for example a fixed asset register, a lease schedule, or a tax reconciliation — use a Cell Report section. Build the schedule in a Cell Report first (under Reports → Custom → New Report → Cell-based), then add it to the package as a Cell Report section.

For externally prepared schedules, use Imported Excel or Imported Document sections to bring them in directly without reformatting.

💡 Tip: Use a Page Title section before each major group — Financial Statements, Notes, Supporting Schedules — to give the PDF clear chapter breaks. Enable the table of contents in print settings so readers can navigate directly to any section.

5. Configure the Cover Page

Add a cover page to give the package a professional appearance. In the package editor, open the Cover Page settings and configure:

Setting Options
Teal, Midnight Blue, Navy, Charcoal, or Burgundy
Dual Orbit (two circles), Matrix (dot grid), or Radiate (fan lines)
The main heading on the cover — e.g. Financial Notes — December 2025
The organisation or group name shown below the title

6. Configure Print Settings

Open the Settings panel in the package editor to configure how the PDF is generated:

Setting Recommended for financial notes
Portrait for most sections — override individual sections to Landscape for wide tables or dashboards
Fit page to ensure each section fills the page neatly, or Fit width for wide reports
As a separate page — gives readers a full index of sections and page numbers
Enable — essential for a formal notes document
Optional — add a confidentiality notice or entity name (up to 350 characters)

7. Publish a Snapshot

When the financial notes are finalised for a period, publish the package to create a permanent, frozen snapshot. Go to Insight Packages → Custom, find the package, and click Publish. Enter a title — for example December 2025 Financial Notes — and select the reporting month. BrizoConsol generates the PDF immediately and saves it as a permanent publication.

Published versions appear in the Insight Packages sidebar alongside the live package and can be downloaded at any time. They are ideal for board records, audit files, or any situation where you need to preserve what was reported for a specific period.

💡 Tip: Publish after your month-end data has fully synced into BrizoConsol so the figures in the snapshot reflect the final, reconciled numbers.

8. Schedule Automated Delivery (Optional)

If the financial notes need to go to board members, investors, or management on a recurring basis, set up a schedule. From the Insight Packages sidebar, click Schedule, select the package, and configure:

Option Description
Daily, Weekly, or Monthly — for financial notes, Monthly is typical
Enter any email addresses — recipients do not need a BrizoConsol account
Customise the email so recipients immediately know what they are receiving

BrizoConsol handles generation and delivery automatically from the scheduled date. No manual preparation needed.
