What this article covers: How to post, manage, and review Consolidation Journals in BrizoConsol — manual journals entered at the consolidation level to record adjustments outside the source accounting systems.

Consolidation Journals are manual journal entries posted at the group level — not in any individual entity accounting system. Use them to record consolidation-level adjustments such as acquisition accounting entries, intercompany reclassifications, GAAP alignment adjustments, or any correction that only applies in the consolidated view.

1. Navigating to Consolidation Journals

From the left navigation, go to Adjustments, then select Consolidation Journals under the Journals section. The page shows all journals posted for the selected period and scenario.

2. Journal Types

When adding a journal, select the journal type that best describes the purpose of the entry. Consolidation journals are grouped separately from GAAP adjustment journals.

Type Use for
General consolidation-level adjustments that do not fit a specific GAAP category — reclassifications, corrections, acquisition entries
GAAP adjustment for goodwill amortisation under applicable standards
GAAP adjustment for capitalisation or expensing of development costs
GAAP impairment adjustment on assets or goodwill
GAAP adjustment for property, plant and equipment
GAAP adjustment for investment property valuation
GAAP adjustment for lease accounting (e.g. IFRS 16)
GAAP adjustment for financial instrument measurement or classification
GAAP adjustment for inventory valuation
GAAP adjustment for employee benefit obligations
GAAP reclassification entries to align presentation across entities
Any GAAP adjustment not covered by the categories above
💡 Note: GAAP journal types are only available when multiple accounting standards are enabled for the organisation. If only one standard is configured, only Consolidation Journal types appear.

3. Adding a Journal

1
Select the periodUse the period selector to navigate to the month you are posting to. Locked periods cannot be posted to.
2
Click Add JournalThe journal dialog opens. Enter a description, select the journal type, and set the journal date.
3
Enter debit and credit linesAdd one or more debit lines and one or more credit lines. Select the account and enter the amount for each line. The journal must balance.
4
Optionally set as recurringEnable recurring to post the same journal across multiple months automatically. Set the start and end dates for the recurring series.
5
Save the journalThe journal is posted and appears in the list for the selected period. It will flow into the consolidated reports immediately.

4. Recurring Journals

Recurring journals repeat automatically across a range of months without requiring manual re-entry. When you enable recurring on a journal, set a start date and an end date — BrizoConsol posts the journal for every month in that range. To stop a recurring journal early, delete it and choose to delete the full series.

💡 Tip: Use recurring journals for regular consolidation adjustments that repeat each month — such as a management fee reclassification or a standing goodwill amortisation entry.
